Description

Morland House is a large house dating from the mid-16th century, with later additions and extensive rebuilding in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed, squared rubble with quoins and features graduated slate roofs topped with corniced stone chimneys. The stone copings have kneelers, some of which are adorned with ball finials. The building has a complex asymmetrical plan and elevations, with numerous projecting bays and wings, and it stands two storeys high.

The six-bay front is mainly a 19th-century reconstruction, featuring three gables, including one above an angled porch. The windows are mullioned, with two and three lights, some having transoms or segmental heads that may be original. On the north side of the main courtyard, there is a mid-18th-century wing that includes a pedimented doorcase, rusticated quoins, and a first-floor band. The projecting central bay on the east side contains a ground-floor summer house, which has a carved lintel dated 1880.

To the south-west, there is an attached coach house made of roughly dressed, squared, snecked rubble. The openings facing the road have segmental heads under hoodmoulds with labels.
