Description
No. 34 in Market Place is a former public house built in the 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The building features a rusticated ground floor and wet-dashed upper floors, with a string course between the ground and first floors and another below the eaves. It has a moulded cast-iron gutter supported by brackets and graduated slate roofs with rendered end chimneys. The structure is symmetrical, consisting of three storeys and three bays. A projecting ground floor under a lean-to roof is a later addition. The entrance includes a 20th-century plank door flanked by triple sash windows divided by wooden pilasters, with a single sash window on each return. Each floor above has three sash windows. A life-size statue of a lion, painted gold, stands on a central platform above the ground floor.
