Description
Lattendales and the adjoining stables, located on Berrier Road in Greystoke, is a house and former stables that now serves as a Quaker guest house. It was built in the early 19th century for the Dowson family. The building features mixed pink and calciferous sandstone rubble walls with calciferous sandstone V-jointed quoins set on a chamfered plinth. The roofs are made of graduated greenslate and include banded ashlar chimney stacks.
The house has two storeys and consists of five bays. There is a taller, projecting, cross-gabled section with two bays on the right and one bay on the left. The stables are located at the far left and form an L-shape due to a rear extension, which is connected by a 20th-century link. The right portion of the house features a left panelled door with an overlight in a pilastered surround, topped by a pediment. Sash windows with glazing bars are present in stone surrounds, and similar sash windows can be found in the extension. The stables have a blocked central segmental cart entrance and slit vents.
