Description
The gate piers and garden wall located north-east of Greystoke Castle were built in 1839 and 1846 and are attributed to Henry Howard, likely designed by Anthony Salvin. They feature mixed sandstone rubble walls and ashlar piers. The wall is constructed in a U-shape with a moulded coping, and it includes central square gate piers adorned with supporters and coats-of-arms. The rear part of the shields is dated and inscribed, marking the beginning and completion of the first alterations to Greystoke Castle by Salvin. The wooden gate has palings that incorporate the Howard coat-of-arms. This structure is listed for its group value with Greystoke Castle.
