Description
The Clock Tower, located north-west of Greystoke Castle, was built in 1789 for the 11th Duke of Norfolk and was originally part of a wing of the castle. It is constructed from coursed pink sandstone rubble and features string courses, eaves modillions, a battlemented parapet, and raised quoins set on a chamfered plinth. The tower is heptagonal and stands four storeys high, but it is now just a shell without floors or a roof. It includes a pointed-arched doorway and various openings that are rectangular, round, and segmental, some of which are blind. There are also two clock faces on the upper floor. The ground floor was previously used as the Brew House, which was located beneath the upstairs-maids' dining room. The tower is listed for its group value with Greystoke Castle.
