Description
Alma Cottage and Alma House, dated 1854, are located at the corner of Graham Street and Beacon Road. Originally a public house and stables, Alma House features two storeys and a basement, with a painted scored stucco exterior, quoins, slate roof, and eaves supported by blocks. The front has a central panelled door with a small fanlight above, framed by pilasters and a cornice, accessed by five steps with a simple iron railing. There are two 12-paned sash windows on the ground floor and three above, all set within plain architraves. The gable end facing Beacon Road includes a panelled door, two 12-paned sash windows below, and three above, along with a datestone from 1854 in the gable. Alma Cottage, which was converted from stables around 1890, is also two storeys high and features a doorway with three 6-paned sash windows, each with a continuous dripstone above, and three additional sash windows above, all in plain stone architraves.
