3/8 Randalholme Hall & adjoining byre

II

Large house, of several periods, incorporating tower. West range of two C16 builds; linked by added staircase bay to tower of late C17 appearance with C18 alterations. C19 additions include washhouse to east and porch to north side. West range coursed rubble with quoins. Former 2-storey house, now byre, under graduated stone-flag roof; taller extension under welsh slate roof with stone end chimney. Tower of large sandstone blocks with quoins and moulded cornice with 2 blank shields on each of north and south sides. Replacement welsh slate roof with corniced stone end chimneys. Former house is oldest part of west range and retains original segment-headed doorway with remains of chamfered windows above; C20 garage door to left, steps to inserted 1st floor door on right. Extension incorporates early doorway with 4-centred head, now blocked. Tower of 3 storeys with attics; 2 sashes in architraves to each upper floor on north side (some since lengthened). Large heraldic panel inscribed C.R.R. 1746 to 2nd floor centre; Royal firemark below. Internally, tower has segmental barrel vault to ground floor; remains of mural stairs.
