Description

Randalholme Hall is a large house with several periods of construction, featuring a tower. The west range consists of two buildings from the 16th century, which are connected by an added staircase bay to a tower that appears to be from the late 17th century, with alterations from the 18th century. There are 19th-century additions, including a washhouse to the east and a porch on the north side. The west range is built of coursed rubble with quoins. The former two-storey house, now a byre, has a graduated stone-flag roof, while a taller extension has a Welsh slate roof with a stone end chimney. The tower is constructed from large sandstone blocks, featuring quoins and a moulded cornice with two blank shields on each of the north and south sides. It has a replacement Welsh slate roof with corniced stone end chimneys. The oldest part of the west range retains an original segment-headed doorway, with remnants of chamfered windows above; there is a 20th-century garage door to the left and steps leading to an inserted first-floor door on the right. The extension includes an early doorway with a 4-centred head, which is now blocked. The tower has three storeys with attics; there are two sashes in architraves on each upper floor on the north side, some of which have been lengthened. A large heraldic panel inscribed "C.R.R. 1746" is located at the centre of the second floor, with a Royal firemark below. Inside, the tower features a segmental barrel vault on the ground floor and remains of mural stairs.
