Description

Gilderdale Bridge is a bridge built in 1836, constructed from coursed, squared rubble with flat copings. It features curved lead-ups that have low rectangular end piers topped with chamfered capstones. The bridge has a single tall segmental arch, which includes an arch ring and a central projecting stone drain spout above, with pilaster buttresses on either side. In the center of the inner faces of each parapet, there are panels with moulded borders that display the inscription: "This BRIDGE was Built BY THE Counties of Northumberland & Cumberland 1836." The bridge crosses the county boundary between Cumbria and Northumberland.
