Description
Nos. 9, 11, 13, and 14 on Back Lane are four houses, including a former school, built in the early 19th century. They are pebbledashed with a slate roof and consist of two storeys plus an attic. Nos. 9 to 13 each have one bay facing Back Lane. Nos. 9 and 11 feature adjacent doorways, while No. 13 has its door to the left. The windows have plain reveals, segmental heads, and projecting sills, with similar blind recesses in the attic storeys. No. 9 has top-hung casements that imitate glazing bar sashes. No. 11 features a glazing bar sash on the ground floor and a sash on the first floor. No. 13 has a sash on the ground floor and a glazing bar sash on the first floor. Above the doorway of No. 13 is a plaque inscribed: 'Catholic School 1824'. There are chimneys on the gables and between Nos. 11 and 13. Adjoining the right-hand gable wall is No. 14, which forms a rear wing to the row of houses. No. 14 has an embattled parapet and consists of five bays with sashed windows and a doorway in the fourth bay.
