Description

This is a house and barn dating to 1739, located in Glassonby, near Gamblesby. The initials "J.M." appear above the entrance. The house is constructed of coursed red sandstone rubble with a graduated slate roof and end chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and has four bays. An adjoining barn is situated to the left. A 20th-century door has a chamfered surround featuring a dated and inscribed frieze. The house has one, two, and three-light mullioned windows with two and three-pane casements to the left. Later 18th-century sash windows, with two panes of glass and glazing bars, are located above and to the right of the entrance. The adjoining barn has walls of red sandstone rubble and a graduated green slate roof, with a large cart entrance on the left and two rows of slit vents flanking it.
