Description

Field Head Farmhouse and the adjoining threshing barn date mainly from the 18th century, but they have an earlier core that may date back to the 15th or 16th century. The buildings are constructed from coursed rubble and are wet-dashed at the rear. They feature a graduated stone flag roof with an outshut at the front and stone chimneys. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an 18th-century door with a chamfered surround in the outshut, while the windows are mostly 20th-century casements. The south-west corner of the house includes remnants of the earlier structure, which is square in plan and has a projecting stair turret; an original boarded door with a draw-bar slot can still be found inside. The adjoining threshing barn, located at the west end and built at right angles to the farmhouse, is likely also from the 18th century. It is made of coursed rubble with quoins and has a graduated stone-flag roof with kneelers. Inside, the barn features king-post roof trusses.
