Description
The Former Woolpack Inn, located on Stricklandgate in Kendal, is a building that likely dates back to 1781, as indicated by a rainwater head, although this date may refer to a rebuilding or refronting for Thomas Fenton. Historical records suggest that an inn has existed on this site since around 1695. The structure features wet-dashed rubble on a stucco plinth and a moulded cast-iron gutter. It has a graduated slate roof with stone end chimneys, and it originally consists of a three-storey, two-bay block. The ground floor has three sash windows, with the wider central window being a later addition, while the upper floors each have two sash windows. There is a late 19th-century canted oriel window above the carriage entrance to the yard, and a 20th-century glazed entrance on the right side of the passage. All sash windows include glazing bars. An extension to the right, which was formerly part of The Elephant Inn, and the rear buildings are not of interest.
