Description
Old School is a former school that has been converted into a village hall. It was rebuilt in 1827 on the site of a grammar school that was established in 1663. The building features limestone rubble walls with roughly-dressed limestone quoins and window surrounds, and it has a graduated greenslate roof with a stone ridge. The plan is roughly T-shaped and it is a single storey structure. There is a blocked doorway in the southwest gable, while an inserted doorway in the return has a board door. The building has pointed-arched windows on all sides except for the northeast elevation; the window in the southeast gable has traceried glazing bars, while all other windows are blocked but are said to have leaded glazing. A chimney is located on the southeast gable, and there is a corniced bell-cote made of dressed limestone, topped with a pyramid, on the southwest gable.
