Description

Ash Cottage and The Cottage are a pair of houses, likely dating to the late 17th or early 18th century. They are built of roughcast stone with a slate roof. The east elevation is two stories and four bays wide. The first bay has raised eaves on its side, while the third and fourth bays project forward under a catslide roof. The windows vary in style; the first bay has sash windows with single glazing bars and horns. The second bay contains a blocked two-light, single-chamfered-mullioned window. A small stair light is visible in the third bay. The fourth bay has a first-floor window consisting of a small-paned fixed glazing section and an opening light. A 20th-century lean-to porch, re-entrant to Ash Cottage, has been added. The Cottage features an entrance with a gabled timber porch to the fourth bay. Large gable-end stacks are present, with the stack on the right side protected by a round shaft. The rear elevation is similar in appearance.
