Description
No. 17 Bridge End is a toll-house, now a private dwelling, dated 1851 on the base of its finial, with later alterations. It was built for the Whitehaven Turnpike Trust. The building features incised stucco on a chamfered plinth and has a graduated slate roof with stone copings, kneelers, and finials on the gables. It has a Latin Cross plan and is a single storey. A gabled porch, set back on the left, contains a part-glazed door in a chamfered surround with a 4-centred head, and there is a single window on the west return. On the front right, there is a corniced, canted bay window (with the mullion missing). All the sashes are in their original chamfered surrounds.
