Description
The entrance gates, walls, and railings to the churchyard of St Mary and St Michael were built in the late 19th century by William Head, an engineer from Egremont, as indicated by the foundry mark on the base plates of the gate posts. The gate posts are square in plan, approximately 8 feet high, featuring Gothic panelling and pyramidal caps. The gates themselves are made of cast and wrought iron, adorned with fleurs-de-lis decoration and ogee arcading, along with scrollwork. On either side of the gates, the railings are similar in style and are set on low coursed rubble walls that have chamfered copings.
