Description

The Scaleby War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, made of grey Scottish granite. It is prominently located outside the village hall, facing the main road and easily visible from it. The memorial features a wheel head Celtic cross with a central boss, surrounded by intricate knot work carvings that extend to both the upper and lower sections of the tapering shaft. The shaft is supported by a two-tiered moulded base. An inscription in leaded lettering on the front face of the base reads: "TO THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO SERVED IN THE WAR/ 1914-1918." At the top of the shaft, the names of the two Fallen are listed by surname, with the names of those who served and returned inscribed below.
