Description

High Hill is a house, likely dating from the early 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the early 19th century. The core of the building is clay, with flanking extensions of sandstone rubble, all painted with a whitewash finish. The roof is of graduated green slate, with a lower course of sandstone slates and extensions of Welsh slate. Brick chimney stacks are also present. The house is a single storey, originally a three-bay cottage with single-bay extensions under a common roof. A 20th-century wooden porch covers the early 19th-century entrance. The 20th-century windows are 2-pane casements set within 19th-century plain stone surrounds, contemporary with the extension work. One window likely occupies the position of the original entrance. An extension to the left was constructed as a granary, featuring a 20th-century plank door. A filled entrance now a window retains hinge brackets, and small windows flank a single dove opening. A side loft door is reached by external stone steps. Early 19th-century extensions to the rear are of sandstone and brick, and are likely contemporary with the other alterations.
