Description

Wesley Cottage is a former Methodist Chapel dating to 1828, with a porch added in 1883. Constructed of whitewashed sandstone rubble with painted quoins, the building has a graduated slate roof with stone hips. It is a small, single-story structure, two bays wide. A projecting porch of red sandstone with a slate roof features panel doors and a glazed fanlight; the pointed arch has a false keystone, and an inscribed stone above reads "WESLEYAN METHODIST CHAPEL" with the date. This stone was originally positioned above the former entrance. Flanking casement windows with glazing bars are set within plain stone surrounds and have pointed arches and false keystones. Replacement casement windows on the side have glazing bars, plain stone surrounds, flat arches, shutter hinge brackets, and retaining catches. At the time of its original listing, the interior contained late 19th-century pews, a lectern, and an organ. A corner pulpit/altar rail of moulded wood was fitted with twisted cast iron rails.
