Description
Down Hall Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse with mid or late 18th-century alterations and additions. The front facade features English garden wall bond brickwork set on a chamfered stone plinth, with V-jointed painted quoins. The rear wall is made of painted render over clay, while an extension is constructed from red sandstone coursed rubble, also with V-jointed painted quoins; its rear wall is likely made of clay as well. The building has a graduated green slate roof and brick chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and has three bays, with a single bay extension to the right under a common roof. The entrance includes a six-panel door framed by a painted stone architrave. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, also set in painted stone architraves. The name "Down Hall" originates from the site of a medieval manor house located to the north of this farmhouse. The outbuildings associated with the property are not considered of interest.
