Description

Burgh House and Fulwood House, with the adjoining former barn, originally one dwelling divided into two, date to 1769, as indicated by the initials W. & E.H. above a side entrance. The house has cement-rendered walls on a chamfered plinth with raised, V-jointed painted quoins, and a painted moulded cornice. The end bays have triangular moulded pediments, and the roof is covered in greenslate with cement-rendered chimney stacks. Fulwood House is two storeys high with four bays, and connects to a three-bay outbuilding, formerly a barn. Burgh House has five bays under a common roof. Burgh House has a six-panel door with a radial fanlight within a pilastered surround, including moulded impost blocks and a moulded round arch. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within stone architraves. Fulwood House has a 19th-century prostyle Ionic portico framing a six-panel door, with windows matching those of Burgh House. A courtyard entrance, with a quoined surround and dated keystone, connects the house to the former barn. The barn has blocked slit vents on two levels, replaced by 19th-century casement windows which were used to create a meeting house, now with a corrugated asbestos roof.
