Description
Nos 12-22 Market Place is a building dating from 1819, originally constructed for Reverend Thomas Ramshay. It features shops and a restaurant on the ground floor with flats above. The exterior is finished in incised painted stucco with a plinth, raised quoins, and a cornice, complemented by stone dressings. The roof is made of graduated green slate, similar to the Masonic Hall located behind it, and there are brick chimney stacks. The building has three storeys and consists of nine bays. The ground floor includes 20th-century doors and shop windows, some of which are in original openings while others have been enlarged. The upper floors are fitted with sash windows, mostly retaining their glazing bars and painted stone surrounds. A cast-iron sign reading "MARKET PLACE," which dates from 1896, is located to the right of the building.
