Description
The farm buildings to the east of The Beeches are a cartshed and barn dated 1826, possibly associated with John Railton. They are constructed from a mix of red and yellow ashlar and feature a graduated slate roof. The cartshed is 2½ storeys high, while the barn is 1½ storeys to the farmyard side but rises to 3 storeys at the rear. Together, they form an L-shaped layout that encloses a farmyard.
The cartshed includes four cart entrances with reeded and margin ashlar detailing, featuring both round and headed arches, and the walls are made of snecked ashlar. Two of the entrances are partly filled, and there is a loft door along with small windows that have regular slit vents above. The barn has a larger cart entrance with plank doors, two square-headed entrances also with plank doors, and a loft entrance, accompanied by regular slit vents above. The barn's walls are made of yellow sandstone with red sandstone surrounds. There is a small right-angled single-storey extension to the right, which has plank doors and a graduated slate roof. The buildings are of very large scale and are prominently located at a road junction.
