Description
Steel's Farmhouse and barns is a farmhouse with adjoining barns, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It features a reused dated and inscribed lintel marked R.M. I.M. 1663, likely originating from an earlier house on the same site. The exterior is finished with painted incised stucco over brick and has a graduated greenslate roof with brick chimney stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays, with lower L-shaped brick barns to the right, which are covered by a 20th-century tile roof.
The main entrance consists of a top-glazed panelled door set in a pilastered surround beneath a pediment. The ground floor has double sash windows with glazing bars, while the upper floor features sash windows with glazing bars, all framed in painted stone surrounds. To the right, there is a similar window above a Tudor doorway with a chamfered surround, which is dated under a hood mould. The ground floor windows are equipped with internal panelled shutters.
The barns have blocked entrances, slit vents, and lofts. The side of the building includes a large cart entrance with half-plank doors, additional slit vents, and small upper windows to the right. The walls continue in sandstone to the right under a common roof, and there is a further single-storey barn with a sandstone slate roof.
