Description
The Old Post Office is a late 17th-century house, later used as a post office in the 20th century, with 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of whitewashed sandstone with a graduated greenslate roof and brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys and four bays wide. A plank door is situated on the left side, set within a 17th-century painted stone architrave. There are fixed-pane casement windows; the window to the right has been enlarged, and a small window with a chamfered surround is found on the upper floor. The right-hand two bays project as an outshut featuring a plank door and a 19th-century shop window, both set within painted stone surrounds. Another small window with a chamfered surround is located to the left. The interior includes an inglenook with a heck partition and an arched firebeam, as well as a cast-iron grate and a separate oven. A beamed ceiling is also present.
