7/64 Stable block north of Hayton Castle 11.4.67 G.V. II

Stable block. Late C17 with C19 alterations. Coursed blocks of dressed red sandstone, under graduated greenslate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays with lower single-storey, 2-bay extension to right. Plank doors on ground floor and to lofts, half-boarded windows, all in chamfered C17 surrounds under hoodmoulds. Enlarged central doorway and external steps to C19 loft doorway to left. Lower C19 extension has plank door with flanking small stone-surround openings. Probably not originally intended as a stable,and loft doorways may be enlarged windows but retaining C17 features. Listed for G.V. with Hayton Castle. Further extension to right is not of interest.
