Description

Cockermouth Castle, now a residence, occupies the north side of the outer ward. It is a late 18th-century house, originally separate cottages, constructed of stone and displaying a Georgian character. The two-storey structure has eight sash windows on the upper floor and three doors with sash windows on the ground floor. Most windows are 12-paned and feature plain stone architraves. The roof is slate-covered, with stone chimneys. The east end of the building adjoins the Gatehouse. The inhabited portions of Cockermouth Castle are considered as a group with the uninhabited parts of the castle.
