Description
Cockermouth Castle, specifically the uninhabited parts, is an ancient monument located on a promontory between the Rivers Cocker and Derwent. There has been a castle on this site since before 1221. The Hall was built in 1360, the Flag Tower in 1387, and the Gatehouse was rebuilt around 1400. The castle features full curtain walls and two wards, with the masonry in good condition externally. This important building is situated in a fine setting and is part of a group that includes the inhabited sections of Cockermouth Castle.
