Description

1 and 3 Abbey Street is a late 18th or early 19th century house and shop extension, with later alterations. The exterior is incised stucco on a painted chamfered plinth, topped by a wooden cornice. The roof is slate, with original gable brick chimney stacks, partly hipped. The building is two storeys and three bays, with an angled corner and bay facing onto Annetwell Street, and a three-storey, two-bay rear extension facing Annetwell Street. An off-centre 20th-century door is set in an original painted stone surround. There are sash windows with glazing bars in plain reveals. A corner doorway and flanking shop windows are topped by an overall signboard on wooden pilasters, all boarded over. A set-back doorway on the right provides access to the rear extension. The Annetwell Street facade has a left-hand door and shop window, and a right-hand sliding door, both boarded over. The interior was not inspected. The building was unoccupied at the time of survey.
