WINWICK WINWICK MANOR Gate arch approx. 30m. S of S front of Manor House (Formerly listed as Manor House and gateway)

GV II*

Gate arch and attached walls. Early C17. Limestone ashlar. Semi-circular stone arch framed by widely spaced pairs of engaged fluted Doric columns on square plinths with panelled fronts. Between the columns are panels of elaborate strapwork. Modillions with foliated surrounds in the spandrels of the arch. Entablature over with frieze decorated by alternate ox sculls and roundels and cornice over. The centre is crowned by a semi-circular pediment with coat of arms and finial on a square base. Small triangular pediments flanking with similar finials. The gateway is backed by plain brickwork on the garden side giving rise to the theory that it may have been the original porch to the Manor House rebuilt in this position.
