Description
The Old Orphanage is a house dating from the early and late 18th century. It is constructed of brick with a concrete tile roof. Originally designed with a two-unit plan, the house is two storeys high with an attic, and has a three-window front featuring 20th-century casement windows set in original openings and beneath gauged brick arches. A central entrance has a six-panelled door with panelled reveals and a bracketed hood. A flat brick string course runs between the floors. The interior includes a hall with an early 19th-century staircase featuring a stick balustrade, panelled shutters to rooms on the left and right sides, and a trenched purlin roof structure. The building was once used as an orphanage and was probably refronted in brick in the late 18th century.
