Description
The Sun, Moon and Stars is a public house and restaurant, originally an inn, dating to 1797. It was altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick, painted, with a hipped slate roof and brick lateral stacks. It has an L-shaped layout. The main sections are two and three storeys high. The central entrance has a 6-panel door within a pilastered wooden surround topped with a hood on brackets. Flanking the door are canted bay windows; the front has 16-pane sashes, while the sides have 8-pane sashes. Further sash windows, with flat-arched brick lintels, are found on the first and second floors. A two-storey, one-window range to the left of the centre has a gabled roof and a brick end stack. A three-storey main range to the right of the centre extends to the rear and carries a datestone on its right-hand side elevation, made of ironstone. The interior remains unexamined. The building is believed to have been constructed in connection with the nearby Grand Union Canal.
