Description
Nortoft House is a house primarily built in the late 18th century, with some traces of a 17th-century structure at the rear. It features regular coursed lias stonework and has a symmetrical two-unit design. The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range. The central entrance has a plain arched head and a half-glazed door. The windows are tripartite sashes, with the central ones featuring an arched head and intersecting glazing bars, all set beneath flat arches with keystones. A moulded stone cornice runs along the top, and there is a central roof dormer with Gothick tracery. The ends of the house have 20th-century stone stacks. The rear of the house is likely from the 17th century and is reputed to have a datestone from 1595. Inside, there is a late 18th-century staircase with a quarter landing and a simple Adam style ceiling. A 17th-century doorway with a four-centred head can be found in the back porch, complete with original hinge brackets, and there is a 17th-century moulded stone window surround in the kitchen.
