Description
Fern Cottage is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed from squared coursed lias and features a timber frame with a thatched roof. The building has a three-unit plan with a cross wing on the right side and stands two storeys tall. The front elevation has a three-window range of casements with leaded lights and wooden lintels. To the left, there is a 20th-century six-panelled door. The ground floor is finished in painted stone, while the first floor is timber framed with close studding and diagonal bracing, which may have been restored in the 20th century. The gable facing the road is clad in weatherboarding on the upper section, while the left gable features ashlar parapets and kneelers. There are brick stacks at the ridge. The right elevation is similar but includes one three-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor. Inside, the ground-floor rooms have moulded beams.
