Description
Marriotts House is a mid-18th century farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It is constructed from coursed squared ironstone and features a slate roof with stone ridge and end stacks, the right stack having a rectangular stone flue. The building has a four-unit plan and is two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a four-window range.
The entrance is marked by an 8-panel door located just to the right of the center, which is topped by a semi-circular dummy overlight and framed by a moulded wood surround with Tuscan pilasters. This is further enhanced by a broken entablature that supports an open pediment. The house has 12-pane sash windows throughout, with the ground floor windows on the left being horned. The windows beside the door and to the right have stone lintels with keyblocks, while the two ground floor windows on the left and the one above have timber lintels. Access to the door is via a single moulded semi-circular step.
There are some brick courses below the eaves, and the gables are stone coped with kneelers. A 20th-century single-storey extension has been added to the rear, along with 20th-century roof dormers. Inside, the house features chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer. The staircase has a dog-leg design with stick balusters on the first flight and fat turned balusters on the upper flights.
