Description
Boyd Cottage and the attached barn are located on Badby Church Hill and date back to 1728. The cottage is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble, with some brick courses below the eaves, and features a corrugated iron roof over the remains of a thatch roof, along with brick end stacks. It has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a two-window range. The central entrance consists of a plank door surrounded by wood, with a timber lintel and a 20th-century gabled hood. This is flanked by two-light casement windows with timber lintels on both the ground and first floors. Above the door is a datestone inscribed with S/RJ/1728. At the rear, there is a 20th-century single-storey brick extension. Inside, the cottage includes a stop-chamfered spine beam, an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, a winder-stair, a collar truss roof, and a stud partition between the bedrooms. The attached barn, likely built in the 18th century and remodeled in the 19th century, is also made of coursed ironstone rubble and features a brick eaves course and a corrugated iron roof. It has two storeys and a central door with a loft door above.
