Description

The Old House is a house dating from the 17th century that has been extensively renovated and altered in the 20th century. It is built of coursed squared ironstone and has a plain tile roof that replaced the original thatch. The roof features stone ridge and end stacks, with the ridge stack having two square flues and the right end stack using a re-used square flue. The house has a three-unit through-passage plan and is two storeys high with an attic, featuring a three-window range.

The front includes a 20th-century plank door with a wooden surround and lintel positioned to the right of centre. To the right, there are two-light chamfered mullion windows on both the ground and first floors, while the left side has similar four-light windows on both floors, originally designed as two-light windows. A two-storey canted bay window is located at the far left, showcasing two-light leaded windows with chamfered mullions at the front and single-light windows on the sides, along with blocked windows in the basement.

The left gable end features two one-light windows on both the ground and first floors, all with chamfered stone surrounds. There is also a similar two-light window with a chamfered mullion in the attic and a small one-light window above it. The rear of the house has similar two-light windows and a stair projection. Inside, the house is noted for its ogee-stop chamfered spine beams and a four-centred arched stone fireplace. The building is included for its group value.
