Description
Number 48 on High Street West is a house dated 1897, constructed from coursed limestone with Ketton stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a two-window range. The ground floor of the east front features a 4-light stone mullioned window to the right of a projecting window bay, which is canted on the ground floor and squared on the first floor, supported by corbels. In the canted section, there are also a 2-light and two single-light stone mullioned casements. The first floor has two 4-light stone mullioned casements, and the projecting window bay ends in a gable. A string course at the first floor extends into the south flank.
The south flank includes two ground-floor single-light stone casements and a plank door with three top lights. The doorcase has a carved lintel and is dated 1897. There is a 2-light stone mullioned window on the first floor, and the gable end features a parapet with ball finials. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value with Number 50 and Winchester House School.
