Description

Farmhouse. Dating from the early 17th century, it has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with a plain-tile roof and a massive stone ridge stack featuring six diagonally-set brick flues. It is two storeys high with an attic. Originally a three-unit, baffle-entry plan, the original entry is now blocked. The north-facing elevation, which looks onto the farmyard, has a five-window range; the central first-floor window is blocked. It features two tripartite hornless sash windows, two four-paned horned sash windows on the first floor, and two 2-light casement windows and two 2-light casement windows on the ground floor. All the sashes have 20th-century external secondary glazing. Access to the house is now via a 19th-century single-storey extension to the left. The rear (south-facing, garden) elevation has a central panelled door within a 20th-century porch, three 2-light casement windows, and one blocked door on the ground floor. The first floor has three 2-light casement windows, one single-light window, and a small single-light window which may have been the original stair window. All windows have timber lintels. The interior features several axial ceiling beams, chamfered, and some with unusual spur-shaped stops. To the north of the chimney breast on the first floor is a panelled closet, approached through chamfered and stopped door surrounds, with two panelled doors fitted with H and H-L hinges. It is likely that original fireplaces survive concealed behind modern ones.
