Description
Holly Lodge is a house built around 1851 by Philadelphus Jeyes with assistance from architect A. Milne. It is constructed of regularly coursed lias stone and has a slate roof. The building features a double-depth plan with a courtyard next to the road.
The garden front is three stories high and has a three-window range of casements with glazing bars set under flat arches. A central gabled porch contains 19th-century ribbed double doors with a moulded stone surround. The façade is enhanced by flanking stepped gables and a large central chimney stack. To the right, there is a two-story, four-window range with a castellated parapet, and a two-window range of slit windows at the far right. The left elevation showcases a stepped gable with a 19th-century tunnel vault conservatory attached.
The road-facing elevation features a central gate arch with a pointed head, flanked by tall castellated turrets. The two-story wings on either side also have castellated parapets. The rear elevation forms three sides of the courtyard and ends with a tall square tower topped by a pyramid roof. Various plaques above the main entrance, on the flanking gateway, and on the tower display armorial detailing. The interior retains features from the mid-19th century.
