Description
Faxton House, originally a public house and now a house, dates from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of squared coursed lias stone and features a 20th-century concrete tiled roof. The building has a four-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, displaying a four-window range. The first floor has 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars, while the ground floor features 20th-century casements, all set under wooden lintels. There are two 19th-century glazed doors between the windows, each with 20th-century porches. The gable ends are adorned with ashlar parapets and kneelers. The building has a large central brick and stone chimney stack, as well as brick stacks at both ends. Original 19th-century plaster public house signs are visible on the front and left gable. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear. Inside, there are open fireplaces with chamfered bressumers in the central rooms and chamfered ceiling beams throughout.
