Description
This is a range of farm buildings, including a barn, granary, stabling, and shelter sheds, built around 1840. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared limestone and red brick, topped with hipped slate roofs, forming a U shape. They are one and two storeys high. The single-storey shelter shed facing the farmhouse is open to the yard, featuring a brick segmental-arched arcade. The barn on the right side has a pair of double-leaf opposed doors with wooden lintels and segmental-arched heads. The two-storey granary at the outer end of the left return range has doors and windows with ironstone jambs and lintels, complete with keyblocks, while the side facing the road has no openings. A former cart-standing at the rear is now blocked. These buildings face Rookery Farmhouse across Bridge Road. Rookery Farm was originally part of the Grafton Estate, and this model farmyard closely resembles those built between 1839 and 1844 for the 4th Duke of Grafton as part of a larger agricultural improvement initiative.
