Description

This is an inn, now operating as a hotel and restaurant, dating from 1650, with alterations made in the 20th century. It’s constructed of coursed squared limestone and ironstone, with a plain-tile roof and a brick end stack to the left. The building has a 2-unit plan and is two storeys high, with an attic. It features a 3-window front. A central 4-panel door is set within a pilastered wooden surround, flanked by 20th-century bay windows with a continuous moulded wooden cornice. The first floor has 2-light windows in the centre, with wooden lintels, and a small, blocked window to the left with a stone surround. A 2-light casement window is on the right, with a chamfered stone surround. A central turret has a hipped roof and a 2-light casement window to the front, incorporating a wood lintel and a datestone inscribed L/WS/M/1650. Quoins are present, and a gabled roof dormer is on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
