Description

Manor House is a Grade II* listed building dating from the early 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and around 1860. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof with brick chimneys. The house has an L-plan layout, originally U-shaped, but the east wing was destroyed by fire in the 18th century, leaving the center and west wing intact. The building has two storeys and an attic, with three bays.

The south front has a doorway to the left featuring a stone 4-centred arch and a plank door, along with a lean-to stone porch added around 1920. To the right of the doorway are two stone mullioned windows with 2- and 4-arched lights, both having square hoods. The center of the first floor has a similar 4-light window, flanked by two 2-light windows. The west side includes a projecting gabled wing of one bay, also with stone mullioned windows of 4, 3, and 2 arched lights and square hoods. A large chimney with three 19th-century brick stacks is located on the west side of this wing, alongside a gabled projection from around 1860, which is two storeys and an attic. The west front was re-fenestrated around 1860, and there is a single-storey kitchen wing at the rear from the 19th century.

Inside, the hall to the right of the entrance features an early 16th-century stone fireplace with a 4-centred arch and a ceiling with two intersecting chamfered beams. The first-floor room above the hall has a similar fireplace and original painted wall decoration with red and white stripes and a chequer pattern frieze. To the left of the hall is a room with wooden bolection panelling from around 1720. Further north in the west wing is a former kitchen that includes an open fireplace with an early 18th-century stone segmental arch, which has been partly renewed in brick.
