Description

This is a 17th-century house, located on the south side of Braunston’s Green, that has been converted into a school. A datestone indicates the year 1647. The house was altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble with a slate roof, and has brick stacks. The building is in an L-shape, with two storeys and an attic, and features three bays. The central doorway has a plain stone surround and a four-panel door with glazed upper sections. A 20th-century three-light casement window sits to the right, while a stone-mullioned three-light window is on the left, both with moulded stone frames. A similar window is on the first floor to the left, and the central window has a moulded stone frame and a three-light wooden casement. A three-light casement window with a wooden lintel is in the right bay. The gables have coping stones and kneelers. 20th-century stone extensions add to the rear of the building. A wing projects from the left side at the rear, built of 17th-century coursed ironstone rubble with a slate roof, and contains 20th-century windows and coped gable ends. Internally, the house has been remodelled in the 20th century, but retains moulded spine beams with run-out stops.
