Description
No 34 on High Street is a Grade II listed building originally constructed in the 17th century. It was one of the three manor houses in Great Houghton and has since been divided into two dwellings, although it is now reunited into one. The building features limestone construction with brown stone quoins and gables on the side elevations that have trefoil carved pedimented kneelers and stone copings. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has chimneys positioned to the right and left of the center.
The structure is two storeys high with attics and has three windows. On the first floor, there are two light wood mullion and transom casements, two of which are leaded, and one features a keystone. The ground floor has casement windows, with two set in stone surrounds and a smaller window on the left. The north side elevation includes an attic casement window, a modern casement on the first floor in an opening that was previously blocked, and a three-light ground floor casement window from the 19th century. The south side gable has a two-light stone mullioned attic window.
