Description

The railway bridge over Northampton Road was built around 1837. It features a red brick exterior faced with grey lias. The bridge has a single arch that spans the main road to Northampton, with a round-headed arch that includes imposts and a keyblock. It is flanked by large pilaster buttresses with a buffer. The structure also has a moulded stone cornice and a plain stone-coped parapet. This bridge is significant as part of Robert Stephenson's pioneering London-Birmingham railway line and is depicted in several contemporary illustrations.
