Description

Living Stones is a former vicarage that has been converted into a house. It was largely rebuilt in 1815, likely by Daniel Harris of Oxford, and has origins dating back to the 17th century. The building features coursed squared ironstone, slate roofs, and brick end and ridge stacks. It has a central staircase plan and is two stories high with a three-window range.

The main block includes a central part-glazed door with a round-arched head and a fanlight, which is inscribed with the words "AUDE HOSPES CONTEMNERE OPES/K.M.R.T./1815." To the left of the door is a 12-pane sash window with a stone lintel and keyblock. To the right, there are two 19th-century plate glass sash windows, also with stone lintels, and on the first floor, there are 4-pane 19th-century sash windows with stone lintels and keyblocks. The building has a storey band, moulded stone eaves, and a roof that is hipped to the left, with a stone coped gable to the right that features kneelers.

To the right, there is a lower two-story, one-window wing that has 12-pane sash windows with stone lintels and keyblocks, along with a stone coped gable that also has kneelers. The first-floor window on the right gable end has a hood mould but is blocked and partially covered by a later brick stack. There is a service wing located at the rear right of the building.

Inside, the staircase hall features a stone floor and an open well staircase with stick balusters, carved tread ends, and a ramped and wreathed handrail.
