Description

This is a house dating from the 17th century, significantly altered around 1840. It’s constructed of ironstone ashlar with a slate roof and brick end stacks on stone bases. The house follows a two-unit plan and is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. A central four-panel door, partly glazed, is recessed within a round-arched stone doorway flanked by Doric pilasters supporting a pediment. The ground floor has tripartite sash windows with stone lintels and keyblocks, while the first floor has twelve-pane sashes with similar detailing. The central bay projects forward and features a pediment. Other features include a plinth, moulded stone eaves, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. The right gable end is constructed of coursed squared limestone, banded with ironstone. Inside, a brick-vaulted stone cellar exists, and the stair rail features reused 17th-century barleysugar twist balusters.
