Description
A pair of houses on Park Street, Towcester, dating to the 18th century and built in two phases. They are constructed of coursed squared ironstone with plain-tile roofs and brick end and ridge stacks. Number 12 has a two-unit plan, while number 14 has a single-unit plan. The houses are two storeys and have an attic, with a four-window front.
Number 12 has a central part-glazed six-panel door within a moulded wooden surround, topped with a stone lintel and keyblock, and sheltered by a hood on brackets. Sash windows with stone lintels and keyblocks are present on both the ground and first floors. Number 14, to the left, is of a later date and features a 19th-century part-glazed door with a flat-arched head, along with a small canted bay window to the left. It also has a 19th-century horned sash window to the first floor with a flat-arched head. A rendered plinth is visible on the front of Number 12. The building has ogee moulded stone eaves and three hipped roof dormers.
The interior of Number 14 includes stop-chamfered spine beams, a fitted cupboard with shaped shelves and old doors with HL hinges. In Number 12, noteworthy features include an open fireplace with a replacement bressumer, a fine fitted corner cupboard with a scalloped semi-domed top and shaped shelves, an eared timber fireplace surround, a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters, panelled partitions, and a collar-truss roof.
